IN SPITE OF OUR TERRIBLE WEATHER

The Garden is flourishing. Sorry, guys, it has taken me so long to get back to blogging. We have had an extremely "BAD" Summer this year....Rain, Thunder & Lightening Storms, Fog...utter and complete dampness. The flower garden is not doing well and I refuse to post a picture of that. Disgusting is the correct word to use. Hay needs to be cut and made but that is on hold, too.
If you see SUN in either of those photos, that must have been one of the half dozen days it decided to pop out to prove that it is still around. Today, the rain is just pouring and thunder is off into the distance...Great day for hooking!!

This is Kale and grows very well each year...Makes great Kale muffins...Anyone need a good recipe..???

  2. Sorry to hear about your bad weather. Thankfully the weather didn't harm the veggies.

Here's how I make my brine.
    16 cups of water
    4 cups white distilled vinegar
    1 cup of pickling/canning salt
    1/4 cup of pickling spices

Prepare the jars, caps & lids

In each jar add 1-3 cloves garlic
    1/2 teaspoon pickling spice
    2-4 sprigs/heads of dill
(I also add 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes for a kick)

Slice pickling cukes and add to jars.
    Add lids and tops.
Process in boiling canning pot for 15 minutes.

  3. Hi Anne,
It's so frustrating with the weather of which we have no control. My friends who are farmers here are having a dickens of a time too.
At least you have the hooking to soothe the nerves!
    Stay well!

  4. Good to hear from you again, Anne....You garden looks amazing!! But, what - are you producing enough for all of Newfoundland???! Yikes....It's HUGE!! The weather has been less than summer-like here as well - it doesn't rain "nice" here anymore - with comes the storms - fierce lightening, horrendous winds, power outages, etc. Scary....Kale muffins?? Really??? I have used kale in soups, but am having a hard time imagining it in muffins! Are they sweet muffins??? Happy Wednesday! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

  5. It certainly was the "summer that wasn't" in the Maritimes anyway. I can count the number of sunny days on my fingers and still have a few left. Lol

  8. Anne, I can sympatise with you about bad weather for farmers.
I've been away from blogger too for quite a while but I'm trying to ease my way back occasionally. I'm way too busy to blog every day now. Yesterday and today I've been helping the men pour cement at the farm and I can tell you that it's a dirt hard job. I had to help because one man couldn't come to work today,

I hope that you get your hay in soon. JB
