Sad Christmas Day

Even though Christmas is supposed to be such a happy time, we were saddened on Christmas Day when our dear sixteen year old {approx.} Maramma Sheep Guard Dog, Alexis, passed away.

She was given to us a few years back when an acquaintance of ours was selling his sheep farm and wanted a home for his girl. We thought about it for a number of days before deciding we would take her; after all, we knew she was old and didn't know how long she would last. We had bought her daughter, Mona, three years before (as a puppy) and because She proved to be such a great guard, not only for the sheep but for us as well, that we couldn't go wrong. Sure enough, Alexis proved to be just as good as Mona. She was a dear dog and my hubby and I loved her to pieces. She had a good home with us. She has been cremated and put with the rest of our animal family on her favourite spot....atop the hill where she could have a good "eye" on her sheep....

  1. Oh Anne, I am so sorry. She looks like a beauty.

  2. Dear Anne,
It is the hardest thing to loose a very good pet. Take comfort in that she had the best of home with people who loved her.
Sending prayers and hugs to you and your hubby.
    Cathy G

  3. Anne, So sorry for your loss. I am glad she had a good home with you while she could. Do you still have her puppy? Hang in there, Sorry again. Lisa

  4. Anne...I am so sorry to hear that and sad for you and hubby....I had the pleasure of meeting Alexis...a beautiful dog and I know how much both of you loved her...I know you will always keep her in your heart...

  5. So sorry to hear about the loss of your dear girl, Alexis. It is the hardest thing to deal with and you never forget any of them, do you?

  6. So appreciate your comments. It helps to know others care. Yes, Lisa, we still have Mona. I guess in time we will get a Pal for her...not yet, though...

  7. So sorry to read of your dear doggie's passing. It's always so hard to let go~ but how lucky you are to have Mona ~ they look like wonderful dogs!!

  8. I am so sorry to read this about your precious Alexis. It is just so very hard to loose our pets.
My daughters cocker spaniel is getting up in age and that is actually her baby since she is single and no children. I worry about her because of Toby's age.
Glad you laid him to rest in his favorite spot.

  9. Anne, I'm sorry for your loss. Bless you for taking in an older dog and loving her in her last few years....I just know that they KNOW....
