New Design

Even though there has been plenty of snow to shovel along with every day life chores & activities, I have managed to complete yet another mat....this one being a New Design for me...I have always loved, and still do to this day, seeing clothes hanging and swinging in the wind on a clothesline...Brings back memories of when I was a young girl when Mom would hang the clothes and when it was brought in at evening time, the nice fresh smell would emanate through the house and when we snuggled in our beds, two or three to a bed lots of times, the smell was so heavenly..I swear we all slept much better that night.
At those times, there were no washers & dryers...just a washboard and tub and later a washing machine with a "dasher" and wringer in it...I don't know how many of you can relate to this as I can.....
Happy thoughts for me....

  1. I still love driving through the country and seeing a line of clothes hung out. I remember watching my grandmother with the old wringer washer. We never had a dryer back then but I do love the smell sheets fresh off the line.
The rug is lovely by the way.

  3. Oh Anne!
Your rug captures the memories and the smells and the summer that we all long for these dreary winter days! It is fabulous! I enjoy your style of hooking and your stories being hooked into rugs! I remember the sheets being hung out even in winter...... we'd always laugh at the frozen sheets being brought in and "melting" so quickly when they hit the warm air in the house!

  4. Another beautiful one Anne. Keep them coming. I too love the smell of fresh laundry from the outdoors. Can't wait for it to get warmer so I can hang mine outside again. The only thing it would smell like now is woodsmoke....... not the same effect. lol.

  7. I grew up with a washer and dryer. My mom would however you the clothes line all summer long. I am fortunate enough to use my neighbor's line in the summer for my sheets. Love the smell of sheets off the line. Your rug is gorgeous. Where will it be used in your house?

  8. My grandmother had a wringer washing machine. She'd drag the washer to the kitchen sink and feed the clothes through the wringer. She and her sister would tell stories of someone they knew who got their arm sucked into the wringer and that would freak me out. I ended up using the wringer washer in a children's book that I wrote--without the squished arm part!
I love line-dried clothes, as well! Your rug is marvelous--as ever!

  9. My nana had a "wringer" when I was a child, and I was always worried she'd catch her fingers in it! My neighbor has a clothesline and I love the nostalgia of seeing clothes drying outside. Your rug is beautiful!
