Mixture of Materials

I have often wondered what rug hookers were talking about when they said they used different materials such as wire, twine, plastic bags, saran wrap, leather cording, etc. Well, here is a prime example of that. It is a picture of a finished product by Toni Jette on "The Welcome Mat". I have to say she has lots of patience to accomplish this, for sure. Do many of you use this method?
If you enlarge this photo, you will get a better idea of how it really looks...

  1. Hi Anne,
Playing with different materials is not only a fun challenge but a cost effective way of demoing how accessible our craft really is.
I was asked to do a hooking demo. at an inner city library. I went to the local thrift store and asked for a garbage bag of rejected clothing. This is the material that the store has to pay to have taken to the dump. I challenged myself to hook with what was found in the bag. It ended up being a fun freehand drawing of tugboats and helped people to see that they don't have to be limited by finances or materials in order to create. I really enjoy your work and this blog.
    Thanks, Deborah Groom
